NHS Right to Choose for ADHD
You may be entitled to a free private ADHD assessment, fully funded by the NHS. Here's everything you need to know.
What is NHS Right to Choose?
The NHS Right to Choose (RtC) scheme gives patients in England the legal right to choose which provider delivers their NHS-funded care — including private providers. For ADHD, this means your GP can refer you to an accredited private clinic, and the NHS pays the bill.
This is different from a standard GP referral. You must proactively request it, name the specific clinic you want, and the clinic must be on the NHS approved provider list.
How to Use It — Step by Step
Find an Eligible Clinic
Use our filter to browse clinics that accept NHS Right to Choose referrals. Look for the green NHS RTC badge.
Book a GP Appointment
Tell your GP you'd like a referral under NHS Right to Choose. You don't need a formal ADHD diagnosis — you just need to request a specialist assessment.
Name Your Clinic
Specifically name the clinic you've chosen. Your GP must respect your choice if the provider is on the approved list.
